PicSketch offers a simple and handy solution to turn photos into sketches. Besides standard editing features like rotating, resizing, and changing luminosity issues, the application comes with a comprehensive set of hand drawing special effects that will change the ordinary appearance of a picture into an artistic creation.
The program's interface is straightforward and intuitive. All editing functions are conveniently placed on the main window, so that the process of converting images into sketches is performed easily and in no time. A photo you intend to edit can be loaded either by browsing through your computer's files and folders, or simply by using the drag-and-drop method. Once the image is imported, the program instantly turns it into a rough draft that supports further editing. You can make use of two editing modes for applying additional adjustments to an image. There is a Classic mode that enables you to manually change some issues of your sketch, and a Preset mode comprising a series of templates at your disposal.
Within the Classic mode, you are able to control the color and the size of the pencil lines within the sketch. With the right settings, the output drawing may either keep few colors of the original photo, or feature black-and-white hues only. In addition, you can adjust both the brightness and the contrast of the sketch appearance. What's more, you have up to 18 templates that will confer to your creation a more or less old picture effect. If you prefer a rather small manual intervention over the sketch, then you should turn to the Preset mode. Here, the original image will be placed on ancient paper-like backgrounds and framed with raw pencil lines. Once the sketch editing is over, you can save your creation as JPEG, TIFF, and PNG file formats. At this stage, image resizing is allowed.
The program is good and runs quite well. Sometimes you may have the impression that it freezes, mainly when loading large-sized input images; however, this drawback is surpassed rather quickly and you are able to continue the editing process in good terms. The preview allows you to see in real time whatever picture modification you apply, yet not aside the source image. If you want to look at the original photo, you need to press a specific button which, once it is released, brings you back to the sketch layout.
