PixelJunk Monsters puts you at the head of the defenders of Tikiman the Forest Defenders' forces as he bids to stop hordes of monsters from destroying his realm.
At it's core, PixelJunk Monsters is a typical tower defence game. You must arrange your defences to fight off for the incoming hordes of enemies. There are three game modes to try out in the form of a single player campaign, local co-op, and challenge you can tackle. There are 47 different environments to do battle in, plus the option to play randomly generated levels. The art-style is simplistic, almost to the point that it feels unfinished, but it doesn't detract from the gameplay.
PixelJunk Monsters feels, in general, a little unfinished. The UI is not the most responsive, the AI can, at time, behave very strangely, and the aforementioned art-style feels a little like prototype assets that never got finished. There's hardly any time between waves to prepare defences, and no option to change the speed of the gameplay. Still, the game is fun and there's a lot to do. If you like tower defence games, you should find plenty to like here.
