PokéOne is an unofficialPokémon massively multiplayer online role-playing game. The game is an homage to the earliest releases of Pokémon, especially since it is set in the Kanto and Johto Region. Another nod to the original games is the playstyle, with the outcome ofturn-based combats depending on aPokémon’s stats and experience. However,compared to other independent releases, likePokémon Blaze Online and PokeMMO, PokéOne’s3D graphics is visually lacking.
PokéOne is an independent MMORPG set in Kanto and Johto region. Inspired by the classic Pokémon Series, the game begins with you creating yourPokémon Trainer persona, including your region of origin. Fans of the franchise may recognize the regions fromPokémon Red and Blue, andPokémon Gold and Silver. Of course, you will also need to choose your starter Pokémon.
The game follows the same Pokémon formula: trainPokémon, defeat trainers, collect gym badges, and defeat the Elite 4. What’s makes PokéOne different? The game is done completely online; you’ll be up against real people that have logged on the PokéOne server. Players can trade, battle, and talk to one another, creating a dynamic community where “trainers” can help one another and forge friendships.
As far as online games go, PokéOne also has issues with its servers. This is common with MMORPGs with a large user-base, with the server overloaded with users, it eventually shuts down. It can last for a few minutes to several hours. Another downside, is that it doesn’t require trainers to engage in battle, leading several players to sell Masterballs, Shinies, Evo items, and TMs in the hopes of getting the best Pokémon, like Suicune.
PokéOne is a great entry to the list of Pokémon-inspired games as it is a great homage to several iconic titles. It follows the same mechanics as the original Pokémon games, but with the addition of interacting with real people in the game’s community centers. You don’t have to spend a lot of time evolving your Pokémons either. Sell your items, and hope that another player will sell you their best Pokémon at the right price.
