Port Mac allows you to create port mappings that allow using remote resources. Thus, the tool can be used to access shared files, a web server or a webcam, for instance. In this respect, the application’s interface makes using and configuring the port mapping feature more easily than it is possible with your router’s native interface.

In order to create a new mapping, you need to provide various data, such as local port, desired public port, protocol (TCP or UDP) and a reference string. Likewise, you can assign it a descriptive name. For instance, you can name it Camera or Shared Resources, to make it more meaningful. Next, press the Add Mapping button. All the mappings you create are shown in the application’s main window, including status, name, local port and desired port. Moreover, you can toggle individual mappings on and off by clicking on the corresponding checkbox.

Port Map has the advantage of creating mappings directly on your router, which means that the connections will continue to be mapped after you quit the application. Regrettably, the product also has some drawbacks. For instance, you cannot forward the same port from one interface to another. It is also a shame that the Close button fails to close the application, which makes it necessary to force it to quit instead.

All in all, Port Map allows you manage mappings easily, which provides access multiple remote resources. Luckily, the product is opensource and available for free.
