Check out an assistant for focusing on work activities when accessing a Mac. Automatically or manually disable all possible audio-based distractions such as notifications, regular signals, interface effects, etc. Additionally, fade out all unwanted windows.

Quiet: Push distractions away, silence disturbances and attain a peaceful, concentrated state with Quiet for Mac OS X. With the press of a button, quieten loud applications and slowly disappear all unwanted windows. It provides the moment of serenity you need to continue working. Quiet will ask programs which usually vie for your attention to stay silent. Chat clients like Adium or iChat will be set as 'away' or 'busy'. Skype ringing will be turned off using the 'Do Not Disturb' mode. Quiet can even hide the Dock to prevent unwanted icon bouncing or notifications about emails.
