RAAViewer allows medical students to study the human anatomy using a series of high-quality CT and MRI images. With the help of computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging scans, specialists can effectively diagnose diseases and they are equally helpful for teaching purposes. RAAViewer provides a set of such scans for different parts of the body as well as means to view them.

The application offers 30 types of image sets for users to choose from, divided into multiple categories: CT, MR, X-Ray, Slice Gross Anatomy, Slice Illustration, Gross Pathology, and Illustration. To all these groups you may apply filters in order to narrow down the selection or simply point the mouse cursor to a specific body section (picture of the human body on the left side of interface). It is the viewer, however, that I found extremely useful; for contiguous image slices, RAAViewer makes it very easy to navigate through. Users can enable all associated labels, rotate and mirror images. In spite of these features, the application currently lacks the ability to zoom in / out.

Please note, that some images may be outdated in terms of labeling so you may want to use RAAViewer as a textbook complement. All in all though, this is a great tool that should interest both medical teachers and students alike who have an interest in radiology.

v1.1 [Oct 24, 2010]
Annoying, although not crashing, bug was introduced with the May 20, 2011 release. A dialog box would inappropriately appear with a message about “Nothing seems to be happening…”
