Race the Sun is an action platformer, also known as an “endless runner” game. In Race the Sun the player controls a solar craft in a race versus the sunset. Besides having to keep moving at all cost so that the sun is always up, providing the energy required for the ship’s movement, you will also have to dodge a large variety of obstacles and catch all kinds of boosts and power-ups that help you in your quest.

Race the Sun is quite simple, in terms of both gameplay and visuals. There is no complicated gameplay that require strategic thinking or anticipation skills, only good reflexes and concentration. As far as the graphics go, the game is even more simplistic. The visuals are minimalistic, without any complex details or sophisticated background. The obstacles that you have to dodge are often plain geometrical shapes.

Though visually simplistic and having the gameplay based on basic mechanics, Race the Sun manages to be quite addictive. It generates the sensation of speed and tension in a very successful manner, making the adrenaline pump through your veins like never before. Yet, once you get skilled at it, it can also be quite relaxing. That’s mostly thanks to the impeccable tight controls that make split-second obstacle dodging and near misses both thrilling and incredibly satisfying.

To sum it all up, this game shows that it doesn’t take sophisticated graphics, intricate storylines, or complex gameplay to be addictive and entertaining. It’s a cool minimalistic arcade-like indie game that I consider a smart addition to my game collection.
