RedNotebook is a nice journal which helps you keep your notes and memories in one modern, easy-to-handle application. The program provides a calendar that allows you to move from one day to another instantly for saving corresponding daily notes. You can select the "Preview" mode for visualizing the content you have written before, and the "Edit" mode for making the necessary text changes.
You can use some predefined templates, or you can create some new ones, to fill out your days on a pattern. The program offers you the possibility to export your written material to Plain Text, HTML, Latex or PDF for using the content in other programs. It is also recommended to periodically back up your notes to prevent the unpleasant surprise of losing important data. This can be done easily: the program providing the means to quick-save your data in zip format to any location on your computer.
Being a notebook, the program has a few font formatting options. You can select the font size from "Preferences" found in "Edit" pull-down menu. You may also change font style into classic bold, italic, underlined, and struck through. In addition, you have the option to insert files, pictures, links into the text box. I was expecting the content of files or the image itself to be brought into the text field, but it seems that only the path where they are saved on your computer is added.
All in one, RedNotebook is a reliable application for saving quick notes. It's compact and quick.

Version 1.5 released - 2012-07-19
RedNotebook 1.5 has been released. This version sees many nice changes. The highlights are:
Use new logo redesigned by Ciaran.
Remember possible undo/redo actions for each day separately.
Turn all entries of old "Tags" categories into tags without entries at startup.
Suggest last tag when a new tag is added.
When suggesting to use the last tag, leave focus on the tag.
Enable copy menu item in preview mode. (LP:834473)
Only allow hiding words from the cloud, not the tags.
Add shortcut (Ctrl+Home) for "Go to Today"
Fix undo for tags.
Drop support for Python 2.5. This means that we now support Python 2.6 and 2.7.
