Do not let the name mislead you – Reg Organizer is much more than a Windows registry tool. Actually, the program is basically a cleanup tool to remove all unnecessary and unwanted files in the simplest and most intuitive way possible. The registry-related section is hidden behind the Miscellaneous Tools tab, and it requires you to have a deep knowledge of that delicate Windows database.
Its already attractive and clear-cut interface seems to get better on every new iteration of the program. It’s probably very similar to that of previous versions (no huge changes are overtly visible), but somehow it makes you feel that it gains in clarity and intuitiveness with every new version. The main menu (on the left-hand side of the screen) is divided into three main groups – tools for all users, for advanced users, and miscellaneous tools. This last option is the one that includes everything related to the Windows registry and, to me and because of its inherent risks, it might well be part of the previous menu option.
The cleanup and software management features are much more accessible, though. The first thing the program does is perform an Express Check and give you an overview of all the areas that can be improved to boost your system’s performance – useless files found, privacy-related items to clean, startup apps, etc. Some of them, such as the software updates and the tweaks you can perform to improve your Windows experience, are inactive until you purchase a license. All other features, however, are fully functional during the 30-day period of the trial version.
In the System Cleanup section, the program will perform a thorough scan of all your system’s drives, after which you’ll be prompted with a scan report showing all the items that can be deleted and the amount of disk space you will recover in the process. The Private Data Cleanup follows a similar procedure. Once your PC is clean of all junk files, you can improve its startup time by disabling or delaying all those programs that do not need to launch as soon as you start your computer.
The registry-related tools include a registry editor, the option to take a snapshot of your current registry status and compare it with previous ones, and the possibility of taking a look at “important registry parts”. As mentioned, anything pertaining to the registry and all possible changes you may want to perform in it require you to have a deep knowledge of how this database works. The Windows registry is a crucial piece of software when it comes to the normal functioning of your computer system, so you’re advised to handle it with care.
Reg Organizer will keep your PC or laptop in top-notch condition as far as junk and privacy-related files go. Its regular use will guarantee that you don’t lose disk space in unneeded files and hardly-ever-used applications, and that your Windows OS performs as expected.
v8.6 [Dec 31, 2020]
- The new version of Reg Organizer 8.60 that is already available for all users features the dark theme, which users have been asking for long ago.
- We have also improved the startup manager. It now allows for even more flexible and efficient customization of the operating system startup process.
- Disabling startup items: For Windows 10 and 8.1, integration with the operating system for disabling unneeded startup items has appeared. A disabled item remains visible but appears as a crossed-out item.
- Removing unneeded apps: We have added a possibility to remove the app that the startup item belongs to. For example, you notice the startup of a certain app that you no longer need. You can initiate the uninstallation process directly from the startup manager, using the “Uninstall %Program Name%” button on the bottom information panel. Alternatively, you can navigate to the “Applications” tool directly from the startup by selecting the “Open in Applications” menu item from the popup menu. This feature is available only for the items associated with the app registered in the appropriate sections of the system.
- Regular and secure startup items removal: Now you can delete a startup item in one of two ways: by regular or secure removal. In the first case, the item will be simply removed from the list, but this does not guarantee that it will not appear again. This method is recommended by default. If you use secure removal, Reg Organizer, in addition to excluding the item from the list, will make sure that it does not appear there again. This option will be useful, for example, when a certain app creates startup entries for performing some tasks, and this cannot be disabled in the app settings.
- Protected items: Support for Windows 10 and 8.1 services that run in Protected Mode has been added. These services cannot be modified, which is now indicated in the UI.
- Blocking startup settings: For some types of items, such as Task Scheduler items, popup menu commands “Prevent Changing the Delay Time” (for delayed items) and “Prevent Re-Enabling” (for disabled items) have been added. This is necessary when you do not want the apps that have created these entries to change the startup order or to run again on startup (for disabled items).
