Search IP helps you know about the current status of your Internet connection. Similarly, this tool is useful for accessing your public and private IP addresses as well as checking a given server’s reachability. The application runs quietly from the Menu Bar, from where it will not interfere with your work.
By clicking on its icon on the Menu Bar, you can open the tool’s menu. This way, the addresses of your public and private IPs are easily displayed. Its main window, in turn, has tabs that help you navigate through different features. Again, the main tab lets you find out about the status of your connection and the IPs being used. Likewise, you can switch to the Find IP tab, where you can type in the desired URL to get a list of the available associated IPs. Moreover, the Reachability tab is where you can search for a given server to know if it is reachable at the moment. Finally, there is the Ping tab, which you can use to ping a specific IP. This way, you get valuable information as to reachability, number of lost packages and speed.
All in all, Search IP is a quick and unobtrusive way to get important information about your network. However, compared with other similar utilities, it has some missing features. For instance, it cannot provide your MAC address, find the geographic location of an IP, get active ports, or trace a host to find the information about routes. The product can be bought from both the developer’s site and the Mac App Store; however, notice that the price at the Store is slightly lower.
