Originally launched for the Intellivision home console in 1982, the legendary arcade feeding game SHARK! SHARK! is back with a giant splash. This premium reimagined version catapults players into an underwater universe of immersive sounds and a handful of levels teeming with aquatic characters. Unleashing a wave of nostalgia, it harkens back to mindless fish-eating games like Feeding Frenzy.
In SHARK! SHARK!, you play as a plucky little fish with big ambitions, finding yourself amid a bustling underwater crowd — sneaky, big-mouthed sea creatures, quick-turning sharks, and other foes with a fondness for fish in their bellies.
In SHARK! SHARK!, your mission is to accrue as many points as possible while staying alive. The ocean is filled with a diverse cast of characters, from lobsters, crabs, and jellyfish, to the formidable kraken, puffer fish, orca, and electric eel — not to mention the swift and deadly shark. Eat any fish smaller than you and avoid the bigger ones as they will eat you instead.
The shark is not invincible, too, as you can dare tonibble at its tail. However, execute that with caution as sharks are agile and can turn against you in an instant. The game then rewards you with points each time you eat a fish or take a bite of the shark’s tail. Swiftly collect pearls from opening shells on the ocean floor to score extra points.
As your score increases, your fish grows, allowing you to devour larger fish in your quest for survival. Furthermore, the game has something for everyone: single-playermode, localand online multiplayer modes for up to four players, three different worlds — Coral Reef, Pirate Lagoon, and Sunken City — each with 12 levels, and a variety of fishy adversaries to encounter. However, it does retain the outdated graphics of the original, and the overall gameplay duration is rather short.
SHARK! SHARK! caters to both nostalgia and modern expectations in gaming, blending elements from the classic 1982 version with contemporary enhancements. Its charming premise of a small, ambitious fish navigating a dynamic, underwater world teems with opportunities for both strategy and fun. Despite the outdated graphics and relatively short gameplay, its appeal lies in its simplicity, which calls back to classic arcade gaming.
