Sid Meier's Civilization is a turn-based strategy game developed by Firaxis Games.

Civilization IV is a game of historical empire building in which the player builds an empire from scratch. All full-time standard game starts in 4000 BC with a single settler, to build the first city, and an explorer or a warrior. From here, the player must expand his empire while competing against rivals, using geography and technological development.

The player has economic military and political meetings with other nations. Apart from this, you must also establish diplomatic relationships with rivals and explore the map in search of new resources. Other important tasks include planning the new cities construction and scientific progress, which discovers new technologies.

The player must choose whom to embody selecting from the wide range of historical figures, including Mahatma Gandhi for Indian empire and Mao Zedong for Chinese empire, just to name a few. The game stretches from the period near Stone Age (4000 BC) until 2050 AC. Civilizations gradually advance in technology through research and the presence of great scientists. Another important concept in this game is the growth of cultural value of civilization.

New features: - Great characters, which are units that are divided into five categories: artists, merchants, prophets, engineers and scientists. - The founding and expansion of religions and the adoption of an official religion. - Governments have been replaced by a more flexible principles models, where the player can choose how much freedom the citizens will have. - The units have no index of attack or defense, but they are an indicator of strength.
