Keeping a diary on paper has some advantages and disadvantages. One advantage is that some people consider that it is more personal, words flow more naturally when you’re using a pen. One disadvantage is that you can lose it or other people can find and read it.

Simply Journal is a journaling software that helps you keep your diary safe and private. The simplicity of it is actually pleasant; it makes the writing experience clearer and cleaner. It does not have any advanced features and it is a plus in this case. But this does not mean that it does not include essential features. Entries can be searched or browsed, printed and organized in categories called “books”. The feature needed to encrypt contents by using a password is also included.

The program is easy to use and the interface has just one small problem. When you go to an entry and view the text content, it’s read-only. That is normal, to protect against accidentally editing it. But the same happens when you go to an empty entry and that is not normal. To be able to write/edit text, you have to click the “Edit” button that is inconveniently located in the bottom right corner of the interface. It is hard to spot if you’re not paying attention to that area.

The biggest advantage of this program is its simplicity. Trial version has a limit of 30 entries, enough to test it out.
