sizeChecker is a disk and folder usage statistics viewer designed for Mac, Windows, and Linux. This utility might prove to be of good use to users who wish to analyze the contents of their drives or directories and find out which files take the most space on their computers.

The application might come in handy if you ever run out of free space on your drive and wish to identify the files that occupy large chunks of your disk memory. You have access to two importing methods: by drag-and-drop or clicking the "Select a Directory".

When you drag-and-drop folders or disks over its interface, the program reveals the stored files like you see them in Windows Explorer. You can browse folders, preview files (for instance, images), copy documents to your Desktop directory, etc.

After you click the "Select A Directory" button and import the folder you wish to analyze, the program will show you two types of charts: pie and bar. Within the first one, you'll be able to see which are the largest and smallest folders and files in size, while the second one will show you rectangular bars with lengths proportional to the file quantity per format.

So, basically, the utility gives you access to two statistics viewing modes: the File Explorer and the graphs. Unfortunately, you cannot switch between display modes (only switch between the bar and pie charts modes). To be more exact, if you chose the first importing method, you won't be able to see the graph representation for the selected directory. You will need to restart the program and choose the second folder import method.

An advantage is that its File Explorer also supports external storage devices, such as USB sticks. What's more, you can export the resulted reports to your local directories. Sadly, the app supports only one output format: CSV.

To summarize, I think it's worth installing this free program on your Mac if you wish to learn which files occupy large chunks of your disk memory. It offers you accurate statistics, is simple to use, and is open source.
