An annoying aspect when working with multiple windows from different programs is that the OS X doesn't provide you with a simple way to arrange them on your screen. A solution for this issue comes from the SizeUp application, an efficient utility that's very simple to handle.
Before resizing any windows on your desktop, you need to go to Mac's System Preferences tool and enable the option that allows SizeUp to control your computer (Security & Privacy -> Privacy tab- > Accessibility). Afterwards, you can start using SizeUp on your Mac.
The program lives on your Menu Bar from where you can access the hotkeys information, configure the app's settings according to your needs or disable the shortcut keys. In the Preferences panel, you will find various window resizing and arranging profiles, options for setting the proper screen margins (a screen is resized/rearranged on your desktop whenever you move the window over a margin), etc.
Another advantage is that you can always change the default global hotkeys if they're too hard to remember when resizing windows.
