Skype Recorder is a very simple and small application that allows recording Skype audio conversations (“Skype calls”). It compensates the fact that this feature is not provided by Skype by default.
The most obvious characteristic of Skype Recorder is its simplicity. It is very lightweight and neat and doesn’t come with any settings at all, except letting you change the hotkeys that allow you to start, pause and stop the recording procedure. It can also be set to automatically record calls when they are received, without requiring your manual intervention. Despite being very simple, it is very handy as it can also be used to record other types of conversations besides Skype calls. It can record AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, and Net2Phone conversations as well.
On the other hand, this application doesn’t allow you to change the file format of the recording or its parameters. You will have to deal with WMA files having the same bitrates or sample rates. Furthermore, the interface cannot be resized or customized. Even if it has some flaws and I don’t think it’s the best Skype recording tool one can find, it’s a decent tool that can represent a viable choice for when you need to quickly and easily record Skype calls.
