Slack is a well-known instant messaging utility that not only lets you stay in touch with your co-workers but it also enables you to share documents with minimum effort. By using this program, every member of your team can keep track of the latest project suggestions, brainstorm ideas, and send files from one place.
After you log in to your Slack account, you can create a workspace and send invitations to your co-workers. Afterward, you can start conversations, tag members in your messages to address them new project ideas, and share your files with your team.
A great advantage is the fact that you can edit previous messages if necessary. I also like that the conversations are nicely organized and accessible. You can use the integrated search tool to immediately find a certain message or shared document within the group conversations.
The only bad aspect is that you need to install third-party tools to have access to certain features. For example, the program doesn't provide you with a built-in calendar which might come in handy when planning meeting or other types of events. However, you can install a third-party calendar tool into Slack and use it whenever you like. Simply click the "Apps" button from the left side of the interface and search the tool you need to install.
All in all, I think Slack is one of the best instant messaging tools for Windows as it provides you with many useful features, is very simple to handle, works 100%, and comes with a fair price. It's designed to meet the needs of both small and big teams.
v4.8 [Jul 24, 2020]
Bug fixes:
- Sometimes after an update, the Slack icon would disappear from the system tray. We got some stronger glue, so it should now stay put.
- In rare cases, Slack would simply fail to start altogether. While we’re sure we could all use a coffee break, we know you could also use an application that runs. So we fixed that.
- We made the screen you see when you have connection problems more useful. We also spruced it up a bit with a fresh coat of paint.
- Our notifications system sprung a leak, so we brought it in for a tune-up. Everything should be running smoother now.
