There are different situations in which you will need to synchronize data. Perhaps, the most common is when you keep backups to prevent data loss; however, you may also need to transfer data to a new computer.
SmartSync offers to help you synchronize data easily. The first step will be to create sync jobs, or profiles. The user interface would make easy this otherwise complex task by providing a wizard that will take you through all the necessary steps. The most important single step will be selecting the transfer type, an option that is characterized by its flexibility. In this respect, you will be able to synchronize with a local or a network computer, a remote computer using an FTP connection or a remote computer in packet mode. As a second step, you will be able to use a dropdown menu to choose those files most people need to back up, but there will also be the option to pick source folders manually.
Once you have created your profiles, you will be able to run them manually at any time. However, you can also schedule them as tasks that will be executed unobtrusively while the program is hidden in the System Tray. In this respect, there is also the option to set this application to run as a service carrying out scheduled tasks even if no session is open, which would be most useful for network administrators.
An advantage of this program is that it allows incremental copy, which means that it will replicate only new or changed files, an option that decreases synchronization time. As it uses standard ZIP files, the transfer packages can be opened by any decompressing tool supporting this format.
In general, despite the efforts of the developers to make it easy to use, SmartSync Pro is definitely an application not accessible for users with little experience on computers.
v7.0
- Multi-threaded copying: The new option speeds up file transfer for remote servers/NAS that have high latency. This is especially effective for copying a large number of small files.
- New filter option for subfolders: A new option to include subfolders by name or mask allows you to filter folders more flexibly than ever.
- Backup to SFTP servers: SmartSync Pro supports backup and synchronization with SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) servers. Allows for the transfer of files over a secure SSH connection. Unlike FTP, which does not encrypt data transfers, SFTP provides the capability to securely transfer data with greater reliability and increased performance.
- Backup to Google Drive: Google Drive is a file storage service developed by Google. SmartSync Pro allows you to backup and synchronize your files directly to Google Drive.
- Backup to DropBox: SmartSync Pro has a native support for DropBox. DropBox is a popular cloud storage service that is frequently used for file sharing and collaboration.
- Backup to OneDrive: OneDrive is a cloud storage service from Microsoft that allows you to store all your important files securely.
