SoftPerfect Personal Firewall 1.4.1

SoftPerfect Personal Firewall is a free application designed to protect the computer against attacks from the Internet or local area network. This network firewall offers customizable security like user-defined rules, packet filtering and password protection, and logging.

This Personal Firewall has a trusted MAC address revision feature plus a separate network adapter configuration to use along with a router or a server. The program comes with a predefined set of rules but they can be changed. Also the users can customize rules quickly using the learning mode, which prompts for the required actions when it detects an unknown packet.

SoftPerfect Personal Firewall works at a low level and allows to create rules based on non-IP protocols such as ARP. Additionally, it can now be fully integrated with Windows 7 (including 64 bit versions).

This free application is a good choice and performs greatly. But on the downside novice users may have a hard time configuring the firewall since it requires basic networking knowledge to run properly.
