Softtote Photo Recovery for Mac is a data recovery tool for the Mac. It allows you to scan your hard drives for files that have been accidentally deleted or otherwise lost. This app can look for photos, videos and music, and you can even filter which of those types of files you want the app to scan for before it starts.
The process is quite simple. You select the hard drive that you want to scan and the app will take care of the rest. When the scan starts you will see a new window that tells you what sector is being read and how many remaining sectors there are. Here, you can also check the elapsed time and the estimated completion time and how many files have already been found. As the application scans, it will display the images on the window. This way, you know when you can stop the scan after you have found the image that you were looking for. The program estimated that a full scan on my Macs 500-gigabyte hard drive was going to take 5 hours. So it is a good idea to leave it scanning overnight, because it can really make your Mac slow.
Once the scan is complete or you have stopped it, you will find yourself looking at the results window. Here, all the found files will be grouped by type first, and then by format. At the bottom of the window, you will see how many files were found and how much space they take. You can preview the photos here before you recover them.
