Spider - Classic Solitaire Card Game, developed by Holger Sindbaek, is a free card game, which is based on the classic Microsoft Spider Solitaire game for Windows. It combines the overall look and feel of the original game with a new minimalist interface and slightly updated graphics, meaning it simultaneously provides a sense of nostalgia and a more up-to-date experience for fans of the game.
As with the Windows version of the game, Spider excels by combining simplistic rules with a need for strategic moves. The game itself is a two-deck game, which requires users to move cards from one column to another, creating stacks of cards in the right order, starting with 'King' and ending with 'Ace'. Completed stacks are moved to the foundation and the aim of the game is to remove all cards from the table.
Spider offers one, two and four suit games - serving as the 'easy', 'medium' and 'hard' difficulty levels - while the software also makes use of a drag-and-drop system, and includes 'hint', 'undo' and click-to-move functions. There are occasional problems with click-to-move ignoring better moves, and the game introduces no real innovations, but it is a faithful remake of Microsoft Spider Solitaire, which will keep most fans happy.
