Switch Sound File Converter is a multi-format audio conversion tool that supports all the most widely used audio file formats and codecs. It not only allows you to convert video files between formats, but can also rip the tracks of your audio CDs and the audio streams of your video DVDs and convert them into the desired format on the fly. This versatility makes this tool a serious contender among the plethora of audio converters available on the market.

All the most popular audio file types are represented in the long list of codecs supported – uncompressed audio (WAV, PCM, ADPCM, etc.), compressed lossless audio (APE and FLAC, for instance) and compressed lossy audio (MP3, AC3, Ogg, etc.). All of these audio formats come with their own set of customization settings, allowing you to determine the level of quality of the output files. Additionally, when dealing with MP3 files, you can avoid losing quality by setting the program to not to recompress source MP3 files to a lower bit rate. When testing this tool, however, I noticed that most audio codecs are not installed with the program, which means that every time you use a codec that is supported but not included in the package, the program will require downloading it and installing it on your system prior to any conversion process.

As noted, what sets this converter apart from many other similar tools is its versatility when it comes to selecting the source for audio conversion. You can convert already existing audio files, or tell the program to rip and convert the audio tracks of a standard music CD, and even rip any of the audio streams present in a video DVD. Both ripping and conversion processes are performed in the same operation, to which you can also add volume normalization and even ID3 tagging. In the case of audio CDs, the program will search the Web looking for the relevant information to tag the tracks in the disc, such as artist, title, album, etc.

If you add to this flexibility an intuitive and easy-to-use interface and a wide range of output customization options, you will easily understand why Switch Sound File Converter is a serious option to consider when deciding which audio converter may better fit all your needs.
