The Cycle is an FPS game set in a fantasy planet, Fortuna III. You play as a freelance Prospector, whose job is to fulfill contracts for representatives of the Federation. Massive radioactive storms are battering the planet, and it is only a matter of time before it destroys Fortuna III. You need to complete your contracts and head to the EVAC zone before it happens. To make it tougher, you are not the only Prospector with contracts to fill.
Unlike other action shooter games, The Cycle does not focus on racking up a high bloody count. You also do not need to be the last man standing like in battle royale games. The game’s main point is questing and fulfilling the contracts within a set time. The ultimate goal of the game is getting to the dropship and getting out of the planet in one piece. There may be times where you don’t even have to shoot your gun.
More than the interesting gameplay, The Cycle also boasts a colorful, diverse arena. Fortuna III is a patchwork of environment, where one moment you are harvesting mushrooms, and you’re crawling through a mine tunnel the next. There are also various weapons available, so long as you have the credits to spend for a supply drop. Each weapon is distinct and powerful and will fulfill a role that fits your playstyle.
The Cycle is a shooter, unlike any other. The game manages to combine the best elements of a competitive shooting game with parts of an RPG to provide players a unique experience. The visuals are good looking, and the mobs have interesting mechanics to keep you moving and aware. Some hardcore players may find the quests disappointing and lacks depth, but overall, it is an entertaining FPS.
