Thimble is a free board game from indie developer Xtciaan. It’s a reiteration of the classic cups and balls game but with thimbles and a heart-shaped gemstone instead. The game plays as the original. After the thimbles get reshuffled, you must guess which of the thimbles has the gemstone.
Like Happy Coding Studio’s Cups and Ball Game and Magma Mobile’s Shell Game,Thimble is yet another adaptation of the ancient cups and balls game popularized by magicians. This game retains the original gameplay but replaces the usual cups and the ball with thimbles and a ruby-like, heart-shaped gemstone.
Although straightforward, the gameplay requires concentration. As you advance in the game, locating the gemstone gets complicated. The thimbles are reshuffled faster, and a new one is added after a certain level. You can even check how you stack up on the leaderboard. Still, the gameplay loop can feel repetitive.
Thimble is a fun game you can enjoy for 15 minutes at best. Beyond 15 minutes, it starts to lose its charm and can get boring as you continue. It can be nostalgic and heartwarming with its familiar gameplay, but nothing still beats playing the actual with friends and family.
