Tovi is intended to preview multiple types of images. In this respect, the application supports practically all common picture types, such as PNG, SVG, JPG and TIFF. Luckily, it can also open not only static but also animated GIFs. The tool is very easy to use and its welcome screen teaches you the basics of its operation; however, there is no formal help documentation.
The application has an extremely intuitive interface. To preview an image, you only need to drag and drop it onto its main window. This action will automatically find other pictures in the same folder, which you can browse using the Right and Left keys. Likewise, you can use other keyboard shortcuts, as well as mouse and trackpad operations to control zoom level, toggle full screen on and off, and rotate the image. Yet, if you are those who find keyboard and mouse methods difficult to remember, there is also a toolbar to do exactly the same, which is shown automatically every time the mouse pointer approaches the bottom border of the window.
Tovi comes with some additional features that are unlikely to be found on similar tools. For instance, it can automatically create slideshows using transitions. Moreover, it lets you convert picture files to MP4 video.
It is important for you to know that, for Tovi to work as expected, it should be granted permission to explore the intended folders. In this respect, it is quite convenient to allow it to access your home folder as well.
All in all, Tovi can substitute macOS built-in image browser as it adds a few goodies. Unfortunately, the application crashed several times on my system without even showing a notice.
