Vuze is a BitTorrent client, content downloader, and video player all-in-one. The application has not been created especially for the Mac. It is made on Java, which enables the developers to have it on all the operating systems that support Java. Vuze has an amazing repertoire of advanced features.
First of all, Vuze is a BitTorrent client. It can load BitTorrent files and download them quite easily. You can download full torrents or choose what files to download, which is a feature not every client has. Unlike other clients, Vuze has a built-in search engine for torrents. You can search for anything and Vuze will look for your torrent in several search engines. It already comes with a few preloaded, but you can add your own. As a BT client, Vuze works well, but it can get very slow, when working with large files. Also, recent tests show that Vuze is downloading a bit slower than uTorrent.
Content subscription and downloading is another feature that separates Vuze from the rest. There are thousands of users or companies that deliver content to end-users via Vuze. If you are looking for a music video, movie preview, or a short, chances are that it is available on Vuze, and in high-definition too. Simply searching for anything on the search box will return several results. Videos are downloaded via BitTorrent, which means that every user that downloaded the video will seed it until deleted. Thus, all the videos load very fast. There is some independent content on Vuze, too. Users upload their home-made shorts and video to Vuze and this has become a great platform for it.
Vuze also has the ability to play most files that are downloaded with it. The video player is pretty basic, but it works great.
Finally, my favorite Vuze feature is a relatively new one: video streaming. If you add your video to Vuze, it can stream it to any device on your home network. It supports both SD and HD quality, and it works like a charm. It currently supports devices like the Xbox 360, PS3, iPods, other computers, etc.
All in all, if you don't mind rather slower performance, that Vuze will give you in terms of download speed and overall feel, it is a great client with a bunch of features for every kind of user. It also makes it easier to find all sorts of content. If you are looking for something more basic and quicker, there is always uTorrent.
