Warzone 2100 is an apocalyptic real-time strategy game. It offers a campaign mode, skirmish, and multiplayer modes. The game takes place after the world is destroyed by an all-out nuclear war. You play as a commander of "The Project" whose mission is to rebuild Earth.

Warzone uses the popular RTS game formula. You start by building your base and other important buildings. Then you research to acquire new buildings and more and better units. You also can repair units and send them back to battle.

For an open-source project, Warzone 2100 is a beautifully-crafted game. All models are in nice 3D and there are some intense graphic effects. There are almost 4000 technologies to research (quite a considerable amount). Also, units can be customized in different ways, so, according to the developers, that leaves us with more than 2000 different unit combinations.

The gameplay is really fast-paced and it all really boils down to how fast you can produce units and defenses. There is always a sense of urgency when you are playing. I like the fact that you can set factories to constantly produce units; some sort of infinite queue.

The game has been released for all major platforms. And you can download it with high-quality cut-scenes or do without videos at all and just download the game. Multiplayer is another great aspect of the game. The battles do get intense, but you really need to get your act together before you go online, or chances are you'll suffer a rather quick obliteration.
