Xnip helps you take screenshots with ease. In this respect, the application supports not only basic screen capturing features as those allowed by the tool built in macOS but also some others that are very convenient. Using the tool is not difficult at all; moreover, there are video tutorials to help you if you have any questions.

The tool supports taking screenshots by pressing the default key combination and selecting the desired screen region. Likewise, there is another set of hotkeys to capture a given window without needing to set the region manually. Yet, it is even possible to shot several windows in a single operation.

Another very convenient feature is the possibility to capture a window with contents that do not fit the screen. This is the case of a webpage, which you can scroll down while taking the shot. Then, the tool can accurately recompose the image.

It is also possible to make annotations to your screenshots. Thus, it lets you draw various shapes, like rectangles, ovals, lines and arrows. Similarly, you can draw freehand and add text. There is even a tool that lets you pixelate parts of the image.

Your screenshots are automatically copied to the clipboard. It is a shame, though, that you cannot save them before going through the annotation process, something that happens automatically when you are using the built-in app. Likewise, unlike other screen capturing apps, Xnip cannot capture video or audio.

To conclude, Xnip certainly adds a few convenient features to those already supported by the built-in app. It definitely deserves your attention so you will probably be glad to hear that it is free to use. There is also a paid Pro version available as an upgrade.
